WRINKLES: PREVENTION AND TREATMENT

Over time, our skin changes; certain substances like collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid, which are responsible for smooth, youthful skin, are broken down. The aging process generally begins as early as age 25. However, if you start early, you can easily counteract the formation of age-related wrinkles with natural remedies. And even if you already have a few wrinkles, there are a few tips and tricks that can make your skin look firmer and plumper again.

We've uncovered the secret to radiant, smooth skin for you and would like to share ways to prevent and treat wrinkles.

How do wrinkles form?

As mentioned in the introduction, the body's own collagen production begins to decline from the age of 25 to 30. This is a completely normal process, and we believe that wrinkles can make a face look interesting and attractive. Therefore, the first priority is to embrace aging – because self-confidence is known to be the most beautiful beauty booster. Let's take a look at the processes in the skin:

The causes of wrinkles

The main causes of wrinkles include

  • a normal, age-related loss of elasticity,
  • the genetic predisposition,
  • external influences (sun rays, solarium, etc.),
  • internal influences (consumption of nicotine, etc.),
  • muscular movement such as laughter and facial expressions.

According to science, extrinsic factors such as nicotine and alcohol consumption or UV radiation are responsible for as much as 90% of skin aging.

Different forms of wrinkles

A distinction is made between three different types of wrinkles:

  • Orthostatic wrinkles are caused by the effect of gravity (e.g. wrinkles at the corner of the mouth or the nasolabial fold)
  • Facial wrinkles are caused by movement of the facial muscles (e.g. frown lines on the forehead, frown lines, crow's feet)
  • Superficial wrinkles are caused, for example, by sun exposure or nicotine consumption (e.g. wrinkles around the upper lip, on the cheeks or on the chin)

What types of wrinkles are there?

As we age, we can observe the development of wrinkles on our bodies, especially on our faces. There are the following types of wrinkles:

  • Forehead wrinkles
  • Frown lines
  • laugh lines
  • Wrinkles on the nose
  • Wrinkles around the mouth
  • Chin crease
  • neck fold
  • cleavage fold
  • back of hand crease

How can I prevent wrinkles?

When it comes to preventing wrinkles, the earlier you start, the better and the more successful you will be. Collagen production in your body already drops significantly at age 30, which is why it makes sense to take anti-aging measures from this point onward.

8 easy tips to prevent wrinkles

  • A balanced diet against wrinkles

We preach it in almost every one of our articles, and you've probably read it by now: A healthy diet makes you glow from within. Above all, be careful not to consume too much sugar. This can lead to glycation, the sugar buildup of tissue fibers. Unused sugar can bind to the skin's protein fibers and impair cell function. This prevents the skin from regenerating itself—leading to wrinkles.

You should also make sure you consume enough protein and unsaturated fatty acids. Proteins are essential for the regeneration and rebuilding of skin cells, and good fatty acids serve as an important building block for cell membranes.

It's also a good idea to take antioxidants like vitamins C, E, zinc, and selenium. These are found in our beauty formulas, COCO BEAUTY SPARKLE and BEAUTY X HYALURONIC CAPSULES . The latter also contains high-quality, vegan hyaluronic acid, which further plumps your skin from within. If you'd like to read more about hyaluronic acid, we highly recommend this article .

We've also developed the 2-PHASE SMOOTH SKIN SET together with our friends at UND GRETEL, which provides your skin with more moisture in two steps and can lead to a better complexion. Thanks to an organically certified skin complex of phytoceramides and a high-quality natural vitamin complex and plant substances, this 2-phase set visibly improves the appearance of the skin, reducing wrinkles and improving collagen levels. All of this is 100% vegan and gluten-free – proven in 15 years of research and six clinical studies.

  • Avoid nicotine and alcohol

Nicotine causes wrinkles because it promotes the breakdown of collagen fibers in the skin. The oxygen supply to the skin decreases, which further promotes the formation of wrinkles. Alcohol negatively affects liver health, which can lead to hormonal imbalance and thus more wrinkles. So make sure to keep your consumption of nicotine and alcohol as low as possible.

    • Sufficient sleep for a youthful appearance

During sleep, skin cells regenerate and replenish their water needs. Seven to eight hours of sleep per night are essential and ensure a more youthful appearance. If you want to improve your sleep quality, we highly recommend our SLEEP CAPSULES, which contain calming and adaptogenic herbs and medicinal mushrooms. They promote relaxation in the evening and ensure a restful night—and a guaranteed wrinkle-free awakening in the morning.

    • As little stress as possible

Stress causes tense muscles and leads to physical strain, which overexerts the skin's connective tissue. This can lead to increased wrinkle formation in chronically stressed people. So try to regularly create small pockets of relaxation in your daily life. Whether it's a short walk through the park, a short meditation session, or a relaxing yoga session during your lunch break—anything that reduces your stress levels will have a positive effect on your skin.

      • Protecting the skin from UV radiation

As you can imagine, a tanning bed is just about the most damaging thing you can do to your skin. The artificially generated UV rays not only cause premature skin aging, they can also drastically increase the risk of skin cancer—and no one wants that. Get your vitamin D with a quick sunbath, but only with adequate protection. Sunscreen with SPF 50 is a must on summer days. We even go so far as to wear a day cream with at least SPF 30 year-round. It's better to be safe than sorry!

        • Sport and exercise as an anti-aging agent

Regular exercise stimulates your metabolism and promotes good circulation to your skin. This not only keeps you fit but also makes you look younger. Combined with oxygen, this is the perfect anti-aging weapon—so how about a long jog in the open air?

          • High fluid intake

By drinking plenty of fluids, you prevent your skin from sagging and provide your cells with sufficient hydration. This plumps up the skin and automatically makes it look younger. Drinking at least 1.5 liters of water per day is an absolute must.

            • Do not shower too hot to prevent wrinkles

A shower that's too hot can dry out your skin. So make sure you keep the water temperature at a moderate level. Pro tip: Ending your shower with a cold shower is very healthy and really wakes you up.

              How can wrinkles be treated?

The previous tips are feasible at any age. But you may now be wondering what you can do if you've already reached a certain age and want to reduce existing wrinkles. There are a few methods for this, which we'll outline below.

              Wrinkle treatment from the inside

As mentioned above, nutrition is a crucial factor in your anti-aging measures and should always be your first priority. High-quality supplements containing hyaluronic acid or collagen can reduce wrinkles and prevent the formation of new ones.

Taking hyaluronic acid to combat wrinkles

Hyaluronic acid is a natural product produced in connective tissue cells. It has the ability to bind 6,000 times its weight in water, thus smoothing and firming skin cells and also healing wounds in the skin. However, starting at age 25, the body's own hyaluronic acid production steadily declines, which can slowly reduce skin elasticity. The result: dry and thinning skin. Muscles, skin, and connective tissue sag, and wrinkles form.

Taking high-quality hyaluronic acid is definitely worth it. As mentioned above, we highly recommend our BEAUTY X HYALURONIC CAPSULES . They work like a beauty cream from within, providing more glow and radiant skin.

Ceramides for plump skin from within

A key component of our skin is ceramides (natural lipids), which are found in all four layers of the epidermis. Like a kind of glue, they bind the skin's surface cells together and hold them together. Ceramides also improve skin density, retain moisture, and protect against allergens and skin diseases. With advancing age, ceramide stores deplete. To support the skin from within, ceramide supplementation is recommended starting at approximately the age of 30.

For our 2-PHASE SMOOTH SKIN SET, we utilized the most clinically studied phytoceramides, which are chemically identical to the naturally produced ceramides in the skin. Lipowheat™ is a unique and patented complex of ceramides and glygosylceramides extracted from wheat. In the dermis, Lipowheat stimulates cellular activity, promotes collagen synthesis, and thus helps reduce the signs of skin aging.

              Massage and Face Yoga

Face yoga is on everyone's lips. This involves gentle massages using tools like a gemstone roller or a Gua Sha stone. After applying a high-quality oil or serum, the tools are gently massaged over the skin. This improves blood circulation and stimulates collagen production, which can minimize wrinkles. You can also perform this gentle massage with your hands. However, make sure you cleanse them thoroughly beforehand to avoid causing blemishes.

              Microdermabrasion against wrinkles

Microdermabrasion is a peeling treatment, usually consisting of fruit acid, that is applied to the face. It dissolves old skin cells on the upper layer of the skin and allows the fresher skin underneath to appear. The result is a more youthful complexion.

              Microneedling

Microneedling involves treating the facial skin with a dermaroller or dermapen, which contains many tiny needles. These create microscopic injuries on the skin, stimulating the self-healing process and collagen production.

After microneedling, the skin can be treated with a hyaluronic acid mask, for example. The small injuries ensure that the active ingredients from the mask can penetrate the skin layers more effectively. You can have microneedling performed in a beauty salon or at home. All you need is a dermaroller or pen.

              Wrinkle treatment with laser

During laser treatment, laser pulses are delivered to the outermost layer of the skin without damaging it. Where the light energy hits the cells, heat is generated, destroying the affected skin cells. This is intended to stimulate the body's self-healing powers – fresh, new cell material is created, leaving behind wrinkle-free skin.

              Injections to treat wrinkles

Another option for wrinkle treatment is the injection of various substances. We at YLUMI believe that the above-mentioned natural methods are far more effective and healthier than the following types of procedures, but we would still like to include them in our list.

              Autologous blood

Autologous blood or plasma lifting is also known as a vampire lift. In this procedure, blood is first drawn from the patient and centrifuged to separate the blood plasma from the rest. The plasma is then, in most cases, enriched with vitamins and amino acids and injected into the desired skin areas.

              Autologous fat

Similar to an autologous blood lift, the autologous fat transfer method first involves suctioning fat from the buttocks or thighs, for example, and injecting it into the desired areas of the face. The fat cells contain stem cells that promote skin regeneration and promote a youthful appearance. Autologous fat transfer is often combined with an autologous blood transfer.

              Hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid can be taken not only through dietary supplements or applied to the skin via creams, but also injected. Once in the dermal layer, it binds water, fills spaces between collagen fibers, and thus increases skin elasticity.

              Botox

The active ingredient botulinum toxin should be familiar to most people when it comes to wrinkle injections. Botox treatment should always be carefully considered, as it has a muscle-relaxing effect and can therefore significantly influence facial expressions.
