THE CAUSES OF BLOATING AND HOW TO TREAT IT

We all know the problem: You go a day without paying attention to what you eat, and suddenly it's there – the annoying bloated stomach. The consequences: We feel unwell, tired, and lacking energy.

Food intolerances and stress are just two of the causes of bloating. In this article, we share our valuable tips on how to combat bloating with natural nutrients:

What causes flatulence?

First, we should get to the bottom of the causes before solving the problem. In the case of bloating, these can be numerous. To name just a few:

  • stress
  • Lack of exercise
  • Low fluid intake
  • Food intolerances
  • Consumption of foods with a flatulent effect
  • Consumption of carbonated drinks
  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Disturbance of the intestinal flora (e.g. after taking antibiotics)
  • Medications

How does a bloated stomach develop?

The intestinal flora (or microbiome) is as individual as our fingerprint. Its composition is also linked to our lifestyle and eating habits. Human digestion is also an incredibly complex process, and it's always fascinating to study it more closely. From our mouth, the food passes into our stomach. Once everything has been well prepared (depending on what you've eaten, this may take longer or shorter), the stomach opens in portions, and the food is released into the duodenum. The blood vessels in the intestinal wall dilate, enzymes from the pancreas break down the food into even smaller fragments, and bile helps with fat processing.

The building blocks of the prepared food are now absorbed through the intestinal wall in the small intestine and transported by the blood to wherever they are needed. Once the food building blocks have been removed from the small intestine, the rest passes through the conveyor belt into the large intestine. The name already tells you what happens to the rest: it is thickened, the liquid is removed, and the indigestible parts are fermented by various bacteria. This is the point at which unpleasant gas in the form of flatulence can develop.

Which nutrients help against flatulence?

With the following natural nutrients, you can prevent bloating and feel significantly lighter, fitter, and full of energy:

Probiotics and prebiotics

PROBIOTICS ("pro bios" translates as "for life") are living microorganisms or beneficial bacteria whose consumption can strengthen the intestinal flora and positively influence the microbial balance in the intestine. Probiotics are used to positively influence the balance of the intestinal flora through the supply of live bacterial strains, particularly bifidobacteria and lactobacilli. Our BELLY BEAUTY CAPSULES contain a highly effective bacterial blend of 15 tested viable lactic acid bacteria, each containing 5 billion CFU – that's 10 billion colony-forming units per daily dose – to support digestion and intestinal flora every day.

For optimal availability, however, prebiotics are also needed—indigestible food residues that promote the survival of probiotics and ensure the establishment of beneficial intestinal bacteria. In BELLY BEAUTY CAPSULES, the prebiotics come from inulin, a natural fiber found in chicory, to promote the colonization of these friendly bacteria in the intestines.

Hericium Erinaceus

The medicinal mushroom Hericium Erinaceus is traditionally used in Asian countries to strengthen the immune system and organs thanks to its essential amino acids, minerals, and trace elements such as iron, magnesium, potassium, zinc, selenium, and phosphorus. The mushroom, which has earned the nickname "health mushroom," is said to provide long-lasting digestive support through its antioxidant effects. For this reason, it is also a component of our BELLY BEAUTY CAPSULES .

Reishi

Reishi, also known as the glossy lacquer polypore, can have a particularly positive effect on intestinal problems associated with pain and inflammation. For those with food intolerances, taking it is recommended due to its histamine-lowering effect. Reishi also strengthens the intestines and can thus counteract flatulence. This powerful mushroom is found, for example, in our BEAUTY X HYALURONIC CAPSULES .

Triphala

Triphala is a traditional Ayurvedic formula consisting of the three fruits amla, bibhitaki, and haritaki. Rich in vitamins and antioxidants, this herbal blend is said to strengthen us against all the stresses lurking in the environment and stimulate the digestive fire. Triphala is also an important ingredient in our BELLY BEAUTY CAPSULES .

Brahmi

Another ingredient in our Belly Beauty Capsules is the brahmi plant. It originates from South Asia. Due to its beneficial properties, it has been valued as an adaptogen in Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years. Brahmi is now also considered a superfood in our country: The leaves of the brahmi plant contain numerous valuable ingredients such as flavonoids, saponins (bacosides), phytosterols, triterpenes, and alkaloids. The plant is said to support the absorption of nutrients and vital substances from the intestines and even has anti-colonial properties, as its constituents inhibit cell division in the intestines.

More tips against flatulence

To support your intestines and digestion in everyday life, we have a few more tips and tricks for you.

Take your time while eating

For both eating and digestion, take your time. Make sure you chew thoroughly while eating, as digestion begins in the mouth. If you eat too quickly, you also run the risk of swallowing too much air with your food, which can lead to bloating. And even after eating, you should give your intestines the time they need to digest before reaching for the next snack.

Drink enough water

We can't even count how many times we've mentioned this tip in various health topics, but it's relevant here too. Drink at least 2 liters of water per day. If you want to counteract bloating, still water is recommended. Chamomile or anise-fennel-caraway tea can also have a positive effect on your digestion.

Pay attention to a healthy diet

Yes, you read that right: "what and how" are crucial here. When it comes to your diet to combat bloating, you should not only ensure that you're providing your body with plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grain products, but also pay attention to how you combine them. Because some foods don't mix well with each other in the stomach. You can read more about food combining in THIS POST .

With YLUMI against bloating

Like all YLUMI products, the BELLY BEAUTY CAPSULES combine wonderfully with each other. They work particularly well with the CLEAN CAPSULES , which is why we've combined these two powerful formulas into a set for you: The YLUMI INTESTINAL TREATMENT is a treatment for balancing the intestinal microbiome, promotes fat metabolism, and also supports the liver.
