EVENING ROUTINE FOR A SUCCESSFUL END TO THE DAY

A message here, an email there, and then a quick check to see if there's anything new on Instagram. The last few minutes before bedtime often look something like this. This often leads to us lying in bed brooding, our thoughts circling around the to-dos for the next day, and we just can't relax. Do you recognize yourself in this? Stop it! Start today by establishing your new evening routine for a successful end to the day. You can look forward to more balance, peace, and contentment. Learn what such a routine might look like in this article.

WHY DO I NEED AN EVENING ROUTINE?

Similar to a morning routine (which we wrote about HERE , by the way), an evening routine allows you to bring structure to your day and establish solid anchors. It can also help you relax more quickly in the evening, switch off better, and improve your sleep quality.

WHAT MIGHT AN EVENING ROUTINE PLAN LOOK LIKE?

One thing to note: We don't want you to spend your day stuck in routines from now on. Your evening routine can be short and sweet (similar to your morning routine). You don't have to carve out two hours in the evening to establish an evening routine. We'd like to give you some food for thought on what you can do to end your day peacefully and start the next one relaxed:

1. Turn off electronics

It's important that you don't end your day with your phone in your hand. This only unnecessarily churns your mind and certainly doesn't make for a successful end to the day. It's best to set a time every day to turn off your laptop and phone. After a few days, you'll notice how incredibly liberating this is. 

2. Journaling

Diaries are for little girls? Not so much! Reflecting on the past day in writing in the evening can be very powerful. This way, you record what went well and what didn't go so well, and organize your thoughts. To keep things brief, you can set three or four questions to answer each evening. These could be, for example, the following:

  • What was my highlight of the day?
  • What could have worked better?
  • What is my insight of the day?
  • What am I grateful for?
