Adaptogens

Adaptogens are certain plant compounds that can help the body cope better with stressful situations. The term was coined in the mid-1950s by the Russian scientist Nicolai Vasilevich Lazarev . He discovered that certain herbs can help the body adapt to the effects of stress.

Lazarev defined this new type of pharmacologically active compounds as agents that induce a state of increased resistance to physical, chemical, or psychogenically damaging environmental stimuli (e.g., chronic stress, cold, heat, nutrient deficiencies, etc.). The special feature of adaptogens is that they can adapt to the body's individual needs and exert their effects accordingly—without unwanted side effects.

The harmonizing and normalizing effects of herbs can increase an organism's resistance to harmful factors and protect the body from states of exhaustion. Certain medicinal mushrooms, such as reishi, and medicinal herbs such as ginseng are said to have strong adaptogenic (i.e., balancing and regulating) effects, which is why they can have a strengthening effect on the immune system and thus a protective function for cells and tissue.

Many of the following ingredients have adaptogenic properties.

Agaricus Blazei Murill

The Agaricus blazei Murill (almond mushroom) is the mushroom with the most polysaccharides among medicinal mushrooms. Western medicine only became aware of it about 40 years ago, and since then, it has been thoroughly researched. Thanks to its constituents (e.g., ergosterol), it is believed to have numerous health-promoting properties. It is used, among other things, to stimulate the immune system.

Alpha-lipoic acid

Alpha-lipoic acid is a fatty acid that also occurs in the human body. It is considered a multi-talented ally against free radicals and environmental toxins and is one of the most effective antioxidants. It is both fat- and water-soluble and can exert its antioxidant effect in both fatty and aqueous environments.

Amla

Amla is a powerful antioxidant and a good source of various phytochemicals, such as terpenoids and flavonoids, minerals, vitamins (especially vitamin C), and various tannins, which are believed to have numerous health-promoting properties. Hydrolyzable tannins (emblicanin A and B), for example, are among the most important bioactive building blocks responsible for amla's antioxidant effects.

Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha (soothing berry) is one of the most important and widely used plants in Ayurvedic medicine. It is said to relieve anxiety and stress, and taking the medicinal herb is also said to improve memory and learning abilities.

Organic astaxanthin is a natural substance from the carotenoid class, found in algae, for example. The botanical name "valeriana" comes from the Latin word "valere," meaning "to be healthy" or "to be well." Brahmi

The Brahmi plant originates from South Asia. Due to its beneficial properties, it has been valued as an adaptogen in Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years. Brahmi is now also considered a superfood in our country: The leaves of the plant contain numerous valuable ingredients such as flavonoids, saponins (bacosides), phytosterols, triterpenes, and alkaloids, which is why they are often used to support concentration, memory, and the gut.

Camu Camu

The camu camu berry grows on shrub-like trees in Peru and has been used as medicine by local tribes for thousands of years. Chlorella

Chlorella (Chlorella vulgaris, Chlorella pyrenoidosa) is a freshwater microalgae that contains high amounts of B vitamins, iron, vitamins A and C, amino acids, and a high concentration of chlorophyll (green leaf color). Due to its valuable nutrients, chlorella is widely used in the cosmetics industry and, above all, as a food additive, and is often used as an adjunct to health treatments.

Choline

Choline is a water-soluble, essential micronutrient found in living organisms and a component of many foods. Choline's role in the body is complex: The nutrient is converted into acetylcholine, which acts as a neurotransmitter, transmitting nerve signals. Furthermore, the micronutrient is responsible for the removal of fatty acids, supports the liver, affects metabolism, and is involved in the synthesis of various enzymes and hormones.

Cordyceps

Cordyceps sinensis (also known as the Chinese caterpillar fungus) is found primarily in Tibet and is widely sought after as a medicinal and nutritional herb throughout Asia. In traditional Chinese medicine, the mushroom is valued for its vitalizing effects and is used to increase concentration, treat weakness and exhaustion, and enhance performance.

ginseng

Ginseng is said to strengthen body and mind: The medicinal active ingredient of ginseng (Panax ginseng) is its root (Ginseng radix). It is said to have a positive effect on the brain (performance and concentration), physical performance, and the blood (immune system).

Green tea extract

Used as a pleasure and medicinal remedy in China and India for thousands of years, green tea only arrived in Europe in the 17th century. Green tea extract is used as an effective antioxidant due to its polyphenols. The health-promoting properties are primarily attributed to catechins (a subgroup of polyphenols). The lower dose of caffeine (theine) does not trigger nervousness, but the catechins it contains still provide energy boosts.

Guarana

Guarana (Paullinia cupana) – a climbing plant from the soapberry family – is native to the tropical rainforest and the Amazon region. As early as the late 17th century, indigenous tribes attributed miraculous powers to the plant and pressed the caffeine-rich seeds of the fruit to use as a tonic and stimulant, and to suppress feelings of hunger.

Guarana's invigorating effects have made it popular worldwide. The effect is described as milder and longer-lasting than coffee, for example, due to the substance guaranine, which is very similar to caffeine. In modern medicine, guarana extract is used, among other things, as a weight-loss agent, to increase physical performance, and to prevent physical exhaustion.

To avoid side effects, no more than 20 grams of guarana powder should be taken per day – however, with the correct dosage, the plant with its invigorating properties is particularly ideal for anyone who wants to increase their performance naturally.

L-tryptophan

L-tryptophan is a proteinogenic amino acid that cannot be produced by the human body itself and is therefore essential (vital). The human organism relies on the intake of tryptophan through food.

Melatonin is the human body's natural sleep hormone, produced from serotonin in the pineal gland. OPC

The abbreviation OPC stands for oligomeric proanthocyanidins. OPC is an extract obtained from grape seeds. It belongs to the polyphenols, a large group of highly effective secondary plant substances. It is also an antioxidant, a substance that helps keep our cells healthy by scavenging free radicals.

OPC is (as with YLUMI) mostly extracted from grape seeds, but can also be found in the skin of red grapes and peanuts, in coconuts, whole grain products and apples, among other things.

Passion flower

The passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) is traditionally native to East India and tropical Central and South America. It was used as a medicinal herb by the Aztecs as early as the 16th century. The plant's main components are essential oils, flavonoids, and coumarins. Constituents such as essential oils and tannins have a soothing effect. They are said to have a calming effect.

Phytoceramide

Ceramides are natural lipids (fats) found naturally in the skin. They connect the skin's surface cells within the skin barrier, thus protecting them from environmental toxins and pathogens. They also ensure that the skin remains well-hydrated and appears plump and firm.

With age, ceramide levels in the skin decrease. As a result, the skin loses elasticity and becomes more permeable. This loss can be compensated for by taking dietary supplements. Phytoceramides from organic wheat extract are particularly suitable for this purpose.

Schisandra

Schisandra Chinensis (Wu Wei Zi) is also called the "herb of five tastes": With its sweet, sour, salty, pungent, and bitter flavors, it is considered one of the 50 essential medicinal herbs in traditional Chinese medicine. Medicinal mushrooms

yam

The Chinese yam root (Chinese wild yam) has been used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for centuries. It is sometimes used as a tonic to regulate menstrual cycles and for menstrual-related symptoms (e.g., PMS).

The regulating effect is due to the ingredient diosgenin, a precursor to the natural hormone progesterone. With the onset of menopause, this hormone decreases, which can lead to symptoms. Diosgenin is also said to increase bone stability and stimulate the production of the hormone DHEA, which is responsible for slowing the aging process.
